FAQ

Q. I would like Lineage Dance to perform a benefit dance concert for my organization. How does it work?

A. We work with each organization to customize the performance. We select the dance pieces that will suit the event, consider appropriate theatre / venue spaces and then calculate fees and expenses. In most cases, the beneficiary organization shares in the responsibility of marketing, promotion and audience development. Our goal is to cover the costs, and provide the proceeds to the organization. In all cases we develop a budget that will work for you. Please contact Peggy Burt, Company Manager for specific details.

Q. What are the requirements for a fundraising performance in terms of space, availability and fees?

A. Minimum space requirements: 24′ width by 20′ depth. We prefer a surface of wood or Marley (dance flooring). We can perform on carpet and outdoor surfaces if necessary.
Our performances are listed on our website. Contact us for available dates.
Fees range from $500 up  depending on the length of the performance, number of dancers, etc.

Q. Where does Lineage teach classes?

A. Please check the workshop  and Lineage Performing Arts Center page for details. We also provide high school and college-level residencies. Please contact Artistic Director Hilary Thomas if you are interested in a residency.

Q. Do you hold formal auditions?

A. Not at this time. Please email us if you are interested and we will contact you should an audition arise.

Q. How often does the company perform?

A. Since Lineage Dance primarily performs benefit dance concerts to raise funds for charitable organizations, we perform frequently an average of 2 weekends per month. In the summer (June-July) we usually tour the country to perform; and on tour, we may perform for as many as 5 different organizations within 2-3 weeks.

Q. How does the company sustain itself?

A. Through generous contributions of individual donors, Foundation support, arts grants, corporate grant programs and performance fees. As with all performing organizations, ticket sales contribute to the overall budget, but are not sufficient to cover all costs. Lineage Dance earns income through educational offerings such as workshops, master classes and high school and college residencies. Lineage Dance is currently seeking to expand support to include corporate sponsorships.

Q. Can I volunteer my time to support Lineage Dance?

A. Yes! We are often in need of volunteers for concert support and special event support. Please email Peggy Burt, Company Manager to express interest.

Q. What types of workshops and master classes do you offer?

A. We offer three types of dance education opportunities

1. Contemporary Dance Workshops for All Ages
2. Contemporary Dance Workshops and Master Classes for dancers and dance students
3. Contemporary Dance Residencies at the high school and college level (may range from a few days to a full academic year)

Lineage Dance is also available to set repertory/choreography on dancers.

Q. Can someone with NO dance experience benefit from a Lineage Dance Workshop?

A. Yes! Lineage Dance specializes in providing accessible, exciting dance workshops for people of all ages who have never danced before. With a combination of choreography and structured improvisation everyone is engaged in dancing expressively and creatively.

Lineage Dance is able to teach dance workshops to match the level of attendees from beginning to advanced to professional level.

Q. Do you do birthday parties?

A. Yes! Children of all ages love Lineage Dance Performances. The only note is our performance called “Dancing For a Cure: Healing Blue”. The thematic content concerns the struggles and triumphs of battling breast cancer. This particular performance is most suitable for children ages 10 and above.

Q. How much money do you generally raise for organizations?

A. This depends on a number of factors related to the production including ticket price, cost of the theatre, audience attendance and the impact of marketing. It may vary from $2,000-$3,000 all the way up to $28,000. We work closely with the organization to develop a budget that will meet the fundraising goal.

Q. Does Lineage Dance do collaborative work with others?

A. Yes! We have pursued a number of collaborative projects with musicians, artists, and actors. We are open to new collaborations; please contact us for more information.
